Kayer Lake trekking | Trekking to Kayer Lake

Khayer is a trek that takes us off the beaten track. It can be combined with a trek to Ghorepani and Poon Hill or done as a separate trek. Lodging and flooding in the region is fairly restricted so it is advisable to take a camping team with you. Our destination is a high mountain lake that is situated at at the rear of Annapurna South. The Khayer lake is a holy one and is popular with pilgrims at certain times of the year. Khayer Lake trek up provides some truly spectacular mountain views.
The area is very secluded the trail leads behind the massif of Annapurna's. There are many undulating ridges to negotiate and whilst you do not need to be super fit the trek at times can be quite taxing. If you are considering this particular trek, an ideal time to come is in spring when there is an abundance of flowers. And beautiful rhododendron forests along the way.
Khayer Lake area holds two big festivals every year in the months of March and April and July and August, many of the locals gather together on the top of the ridge (Khopra Hill). In the first case the locals slay a Yak and drink the blood hot as it is believed to be a cure for all illnesses.
There is also the sacred-thread replacement day (Full Moon of August) during this time people believe that all their wishes will be fulfilled after a visit to the lake. The pilgrims also believe that if they dip their hands into the water of Khayar Lake they will be granted salvation after death. Married women who have yet to concieve also visit the lake to ask the gods to bless their fertility.
