This Annapurna Short Trek is a short and colorful foray into the Annapurna region that takes in the high village of Dhampus and Potana as well as the beautiful old and historical village of Ghandrung for a couple of days. It is ideal for people who really want to sample mountain life but really do not want to exert themselves too much. The trail takes in a patchwork  of valleys, dense mossy forests and crystal clear waterfalls. Around every corner there is a tantalizing glimpse of the high mountains.
 Annapurna Short Trek passes through a variety of ethnic villages mainly inhabited by Gurung, Magar and Brahmin each with their own cultural and social practices based both on Buddhism and Hinduism living in harmony and peace. The main occupations are agriculture, animal husbandry, and the tourism business.

Day 1

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m.) by tourist bus or private car takes about six hours. Pokhara is a popular tourist destination with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus along with a magnificent view of mountains.

Day 2

Drive from Pokhara to Phedi (1130 m.) and trek from Phedi to Pothana (1900m) takes about five hours. The trail ascends all the way to Pothana through forests till you reach the village called Dhampus. It is a Gurung village which gives you an opportunity to look at the magnificent views of Annapurna ranges, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu. The ascent trail follows to Pothana through the forests. This is a small village which is surrounded by forests having marvelous mountain views.

Day 3

Trek from Pothana to Ghandruk (1950 m.) takes about six hours. The early part of the trek is gradual ascend for almost an hour up to Deurali (2100 m.) which passes through oak and mixed forests with splendid views of Manaslu, Annapurna ranges and Mardi Himal. Leaving Deurali, you begin to trek steep downwards to reach Tolkha (1840 m.), a beautiful Magar and Gurung village. To reach the next destination Landruk, a village inhabited by mostly Gurung and few Brahmins the trail is a gradual descent passing through terraces and few settlements. Now the steep descent trail moves downwards to the Modi Khola river and crossing the iron bridge you follow steep uphill to reach Ghandruk.. There are many lodges, Gurung museum and traditional houses made of stone slabs. You can enjoy from here are Annapurna South (7229 m.), Hiunchuli (6441 m.), Annapurna III (7755 m.), Glacier dome (7200 m.) and Fishtail (6997 m.).

Day 4

Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul via Birethanti takes about 5 hours. This day you descend through Kimshe to Shaulo Bazaar. From here your trail goes quite flat until you retrace back to Birethanti. You need to walk almost half an hour to get to Nayapul. Drive from Nayapul to Pokhara by taxi.

Day 5

Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist bus or private car that takes about six hours.

    • A tracksuit useful for wearing in camp and in the tent.
    • 2 pair of loose fitting long shorts/ skirts.
    • Loose cotton pants, long sleeved –shirt is particularly suitable for avoiding sun burn.
    • A pair of gloves. Leather with lining and woolen are best.
    • 1 pair of sandals to wear in the cities and in camp.
    • 2 pairs of thin and 2 pair of thick woolen socks.
    • Down jacket, Woolen shirts and thick sweaters for winter December, January & February.
    • Duffle bag or kit bag to carry to gear while trekking.
    • Daypack: toilet items, camera, film towel, soap, a boot etc. 
    • Water bottle, sunglasses
    • 2-4 large plastic bags to separate clean clothes from dirty ones. 
    • Toiletries with small towels
    • Small headlamp or torch with spare batteries 
    • Raincoat (optional), which is useful when it rains.
