Culture and Nature package is designed to provide travelers with a comprehensive experience of Nepal beginning with a full experience of Kathmandu Valley, before moving on to the scenic lakeside town of Pokhara for some splendid close up views of the Annapurna Range. Pokhara offers you the chance to relax and unwind around the beautiful lake Phewa. There are many cafe and restaurants to relax in around the lake along with some great opportunities for boating. If you are feeling adventurous there are a few activities that are worth checking out. Pokhara over recent years has established itself as a fantastic place for Paragliding (tandem jumps for tourists) and more recently it has added the longest zip line in the world. There are also opportunities for climbing and Canyoning near the town as well as some good sightseeing.
After a good break in Pokhara we move on to Tansen a lovely old historic town and the administrative center of Palpa situated in the "hills" of western Nepal. It is located in a spectacular setting on the crest of the Mahabharat range of hills that form part of the crunch millions of years ago that made the Himalayas, it overlooks the valley of the Kaligandaki River . The old town is a maze of steep, narrow, winding alleys lined with Newari shops and-houses along with many old temples. It has a tradition in metalwork and The most important landmark is the octagonal Pavilion in the middle of Sitalpati, the main market square.
Tansen was the capital of the Magar kingdom Tanahun, one of the most powerful regional principalities before the rise of the Shah Dynasty in Nepal. It even came close to conquering Kathmandu in the 16th century under the leadership of Mukunda Sen. Local Magar kings lost influence in the 18th century and Tansen became a Newari bazaar on the important trade route between India and Tibet via the Kaligandaki River and Mustang.
After spending a couple of days exploring the town and its surrounds we travel on to Lumhini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha .Lumbini is sacred to Buddhists throughout the world, it was where the Buddha lived until the age of 29. It has a number of temples, including the Mayadevi temple, and others under construction. Also located here is the Puskarini or Holy Pond where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he, too, had his first bath, as well as the remains of Kapilavastu palace. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, achieved the ultimate awakening and finally relinquished earthly form. We spend two days here.
From Lumbini we have a five hour drive through the Terrai of southern Nepal to our safari destination of Chitwan National Park. We stay in a lovely lodge on the borders of the park. The Park was established in 1973 and was the first national park in Nepal. Chitwan is approximately 1000 sq kms of subtropical lowland mainly of Sal forest and riverine forest. There are more than forty species of mammals found within the park including The Royal Bengal tiger, One Horn Rhinoceros, leopard and sloth bear along with many others. Almost five hundred species of birds have been recorded.
We spend two-nights / three days / at our lodge, activities include elephant back safaris, dug out canoeing, bird watching and nature walks conducted by a resident professional guide and naturalists. From Chitwan it is a short drive to the airport for a twenty minute flight back to Kathmandu and back to our hotel.
